From a dot of sparkle to a glittering outline

The first attempts are usually big blobs, and that is fine: your child is finding out how hard to press. Within a few sessions the blobs turn into dots, then into wobbly lines that follow a pencil drawing. Squeezing the soft barrel while steering the tip is good practice for the steady hand that writing will need later.

A simple first project: draw a snowflake or a rainbow in pencil, then go over it in glitter. Lay the sheet flat somewhere safe and leave it to dry completely before it is moved or hung up.

Using glitter glue pens at home

• Cover the table with newspaper or an old wipe-clean mat.
• Shake the pen gently and keep the tip pointing down for a few seconds before squeezing.
• Put the caps back on straight away so the nozzles don't dry out.
• Thick card holds the glue better than thin printer paper, which may curl.

Can glitter glue be used on fabric?

These pens are made for paper and card. They will stick to fabric for a one-off decoration, such as a costume or a felt picture, but the formula is washable, so the glitter will not survive a trip through the washing machine. For clothes that will be washed, choose a dedicated fabric paint.
